RODRIGUEZ, Alfredo Nodarse; GUZMAN PARRADO, Roberto  e  DIAZ GARRIDO, Dayamí. Value of average pulsatility index of the uterine arteries in chronic hypertensive patients. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2012, vol.38, n.4, pp. 499-509. ISSN 0138-600X.

Introduction: patients with chronic hypertension have a frequency of 5 % to 25 % worsening of base hypertension during pregnancy, developing pre-eclampsia as more frequent event. Objectives: to evaluate the application of Doppler flowmetry of the uterine arteries analyzing their average values as predictors of adverse perinatal outcomes. Methods: an empirical, prospective, descriptive, non-interventionist study was conducted during a gestation moment. We studied 214 pregnant women attending Ramón González Coro OB/GYN hospital. These subjects had diagnosis of chronic hypertension from September 2007 to November 2010. Results: 142 patients were younger than 35 years (66.4 %); 148 pregnant women had normal pulsatility index of the uterine arteries; 76.7 % had a newborn with appropriate weight for gestational age, and 28 showed relation to pre-eclampsia. Conclusions: the characteristic age was under 35 was in this group studied. The sensitivity of the mean pulsatility index was good for intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). This index showed the best value for the prediction of adverse perinatal outcomes.
