GONZALEZ-QUEVEDO RODRIGUEZ, Mario et al. Effect of Aloe Barbadensis on the thymus gland involution of balb/c mice. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1999, vol.28, n.2, pp. 89-92. ISSN 1561-3046.

300 mg of injectable water extract of Aloe barbandensis Miller or vera Linne were subcutaneously administered to newly weaned Balb/c mice for 97 days in a row, with the objective of finding out whether structural changes in thymus occur due to this drug, which might even alter normal thymus involution. The results of histological tests were compared with those of similar tests made in mice from an untreated control group and in mice injected with 0.9 % sodium chloride solution. Most of Aloe b treated mice's thymus showed a great proliferation of T-Lymphocites at thymus cortex that delayed fat infiltretion of the involution at that level but infiltration did occur in the thymus of the other groups of mice. By using X2 technique to compare the presence or lack of lymphocite proliferation, significant differences were observed (a :0.05) between Aloe b treated-group and the other two groups that developed in a normal way.
