PELAEZ RODRIGUEZ, Rafael; CAPOTE MARRERO, Belina  e  JOMARRON MARTIN, Yolanda. National Toxicology Center about its 30th anniversary. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2017, vol.46, n.1, pp. 1-9. ISSN 1561-3046.

The creation of anti-toxic centers worldwide is a guideline of the World Health Organization for the fight against poisoning, for its vertiginous increase in the last 50 years. The creation of the National Toxicology Center (Cenatox) in Cuba on November 15th, 1986 was conceived as the ideal way to develop the specialty in Cuba. This review shows the main services, results and development of Cenatox as the guiding center for clinical toxicology in Cuba. In the beginning, the functional structure of the Center had a telephone toxicological information department, in order to provide emergency information 24 hours a day throughout the year; an analytical toxicology laboratory and an experimental toxicology department. During 1987, this facility was authorized to assume the functions of coordinator in Cuba of this activity and get official its incorporation into the cooperation network at the regional level. Given its experience and possibilities in the clinical area, in addition to the possibilities offered by its analytical infrastructure since 1991 Cenatox incorporated within its lines of work the conduction of bioequivalence studies to generic medications. In this way, it is linked to the execution of clinical trials. Thus, the clinical site of Cenatox was certified by the Center for State Control of Medications, Equipment and Medical Devices (Cecmed) in compliance with good clinical practice since 2009.
