The «livestock revolution» through the fast growth of the cattle products demand, has created opportunities for increasing the well-fare of part of almost 1 000 million poor people in the world, whose livelihood depend on livestock. Technological innovations have led to social and economic change. They have played a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life and safety of animals and humans. In the last four decades there has been an unprecedented surge in the development of biotechnology in animal production and health. Although vast majority of these technologies has been developed and used in developed countries, they have the potential to alleviate poverty and hunger, to reduce the threats of diseases and ensure environmental sustainability in developing countries. In this article we will try to approach a series of questions about the use of the livestock biotechnologies in the developing countries, related to how extended is the use of them in these countries, which are the main reasons for the success or failure of their application in those conditions, which options have the developing countries to make decisions on the implementation from the appropriate technologies that allow the increase of nourishing security, among others.
