CABRERA AGUDO, Maylin. An approach to the scope of hemispheric security as the axis of US foreign policy towards the hemisphere during the Obama administration. UH [online]. 2018, n.286, pp. 233-244. ISSN 0253-9276.

Historically, the western hemisphere has been of the utmost importance to US-homeland security. In spite of some strategic adjustments to foreign policy of the United States at the "end of the Cold War", this hemisphere continued to be important, but in other ways. This paper deals with the main features of US-policy on hemispheric security during the Barack Obama administration. During his period in office, the Greater Caribbean continued to be central to American foreign policy. In line with their interests, the United States engaged in triangular cooperation with nations in this region, promoted regional leaders, and undertook subregion-wide security projects. As a whole, all this contributed to the American aim of advancing hemispheric security.

Palavras-chave : US-homeland security; Hemispheric security; Greater Caribbean; Caribbean Basin; Foreign policy of the United States.
