ISSN 0258-5936.
This research work was carried out at the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences (INCA), with the aim of evaluating the agricultural use impact of urban sewage sludge from Quibú Purifying Station of Residual Waters. Biosolids obtained through anaerobic digestion and applied to a compacted Red Ferralitic soil increased oxidizing organic matter, assimilable phosphorus and changeable calcium contents. Total contents of bacteria, fungi and actinomyces became higher in the soil, whereas pathogen populations were minimal and in some cases null. On the other hand, it was observed that this organic residual had a positive influence on tomato plant production and its components, without affecting fruit quality. In general, the agricultural use of biosolids proved to be a viable choice in agricultural exploitation systems.
