PLANA, Dagmara et al. Efecto de la radiación solar en la intensidad y severidad de la mancha solar en frutos de tomate. cultrop [online]. 2008, vol.29, n.4, pp. 85-90. ISSN 0258-5936.

Sunspot affects tomato fruit quality. Its severe symptoms contrast with the rest normally ripened red fruit. Its signs are from internal white tissue (IWT) to distinctive yellow peduncle sectors (YS) or under the ripened peduncle skin (YSD). The objective of this research work was to determine the action of sun radiation on sunspot occurrence. Thus, 30 plants were selected out of four varieties, six per treatment and the control. Selected fruits for the control treatment (T1) were uncovered. The other five treatments were covered by a cylindrical filter. The following filters were applied: green cellophane (T2), red cellophane (T3), blue cellophane (T4) and aluminum foil (T5). Results proved a high sunspot effect, since all genotypes showed symptoms in every treatment. These results indicate a genetic predisposition to sunspot, but its intensity and severity depended on the spectral light composition transmitted to fruits. A significant interaction was recorded between genotypes and sun radiation quality.
