CABRERA FERNANDEZ, Miriam; PREVAL PEREZ, Mileibis; TAMAYO BARTHELEMY, Rafaela  e  HERNANDEZ GIL, Marcia. Characterization of a group of patients with uterine cervix cancer admitted in a radiotherapy service. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2961.

The uterine cervix cancer holds the fourth place among the first ten cancer localizations and it has a great impact on the patients, mainly from the psychological point of view. A descriptive study of the women with uterine cervix cancer admitted in the radiotherapy service of the Provincial Oncological Hospital of Santiago de Cuba during the first semestre of 2002 was conducted aimed at characterizing the group according to age, type of treatment, complications and clinical stage of the disease. The sample was made up of the 50 patients admitted in that period. The age group 41-59 prevailed. 96 % of the females received external radiant treatment. Radiodermitis was the most frequent complication and most of the patients with this complication were in IIb stage. Only 3 women had no complication derived from their treatment. It is expected that the results be useful to the nursing personnel of this and other hospitals giving attention to patients under external radiant treatment.
