A bibliographic review is made aimed at giving inforamtion about the psychosocial categories that take part in the health education process, and at considering their importance to formulate and implement effective actions and programs to prevent cancer in the community. Essential aspects of the 5 physchosocial categories are analyzed in order to usse them in cancer prevention and education, utilizing tools that allow to modify the unhealthy life styles of some persons. Simple examples of their application are shown. It is concluded that a new type of health education needs a change in the methodology of participations of the sanitary agents. Instructions are given to introduce processes that propitiate selfregulation and the taking of precautions.
