CALDERON, Margeris Yanes  e  CHIO NARANJO, Ileana. Climacteric and sexuality: their repercussion on the quality of life of the middle-aged females. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2008, vol.24, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3038.

In order to describe the behavior of sexuality and analyze its repercussion on the quality of life of climacteric females, a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 142 females aged 40-59. 78 of them were in the perimenopausal period and 64 in the postmenopausal period. All of them were from 2 family physicians' offices of "Ana Betancourt" Teaching Polyclinic in Playa municipality, Havana City. Some of the main results that characterized the partner relation during the postmenopausal period were the little help of the partner, irritability, misunderstanding, incomprehension and the frequent arguments, which were present in more than 35 % of this group of females. The alterations of the sexual sphere, such as vaginal dryness, decrease of the sexual desire and pain on penetration were observed in more than 30 % of the postmenopausal females, and just in 15 % of the perimenopausal females. The sociocultural factors placed a determinant role in the results attained.
