A proposal of pedagogical professional upgrading for health technology licentiates working as professors in middle level and higher medical education is made in order to increase their knowledge and abilities, as well as their professional competence and performance. The syllabus, the graduate's profile and the graphic of the career were analyzed and the modifications made to this design were assessed. The antecedents of postgraduate training and upgrading in Cuba and their theoretical foundations were analyzed. Pedagogical learning needs were identified by surveys and interviews directed to experts, professors and health technology licenciates. The expert criterion was used for the the proposals of teaching competence. All the technical specialities included in the career were represented in the selected dample. The postgraduate modalities for the organization of the proposal and the main difficulties were explored. It was stressed the coincidence of criteria among the individuals under study and it was corroborated the need of the proposal. The system of pedagogical upgrading is composed of 2 workshops, 3 short postgraduate courses and a diploma project. The application of this methodological proposal and the analysis of its impact were recommended.
