A retrospective study of 91 patients admitted with femoral diaphyseal fractures at the Orthopedic Department of the "Juan Manuel Márquez" Pediatric Teaching Hospital between January, 1991, and December, 1994, was carried out. 67 % of the sample were male. 84 of the patients had closed fractures. Traffic accidents were the most common cause of these fractures. 67 children (73,6 %) were under conservative treatment. Final results were considered as successful in 95,6 % of patients.
