A descriptive and retrospective study was conducted in 2 patients diagnosed and treated due to postsurgical sepsis resulting from hip fractures in a period of 2 years. 229 operations were performed at “Manuel Ascunce Domenech” Provincial Clinical and Surgical Teaching Hospital, in Camaguey, during this time. 5.2 % of them had postsurgical sepsis. The highest incidence was found among females over 71. There was a significant predominance of extracapsular fractures. No remarkable differences were observed between the elective and emergency surgery. In most of the cases the surgical time was from 45 to 60 minutes. Stafilococus Aureus was the prevailing germ. The antibiotic therapy was generally applied for 3 weeks. The length of stay as well as the complications were assessed. Complications were detected in 25 % of the cases.
