BUSTOS-VIVIESCAS, Brian Johan; DELGADO-MOLINA, Mónica Carolina  e  ARLEY ROLON, Nikervin. Evaluation of internal load in a high intensity functional training session: multiple case study. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2021, vol.35, n.1  Epub 01-Jun-2021. ISSN 1561-3100.

Introduction:

High intensity functional training is on the rise due to the multiple benefits it provides, although there are still few studies that allow the evaluation of the internal load in this modality.

Objective:

To evaluate the internal load in a high intensity functional training session in trained subjects.

Method:

Ten subjects participated (5 men and 5 women) trained in high intensity functional training, who developed a training session of the day consisting of three exercises. We registered the part time of each day work and the subjective perception of effort was recorded to calculate the internal training load. Statistical analysis was performed with PSPP statistical package (p-value of 0.05) applying Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon test to identify differences between the internal loads obtained by genders and experience groups.

Results:

The internal load handled for the session by women and men, was 253.20 and 242.46 arbitrary units, respectively. There were no differences in the internal load when comparing by genders and groups of experience in the day work partially and totally (p> 0.05).

Conclusions:

A high intensity functional training session based on training blocks for the shortest possible time represented a “very hard” internal load for subjects trained in this modality.
