MARTINEZ, María de los Ángeles; DUARTE, Leticia  e  CEBALLOS, Margarita. Biology and vertical life table of Diaeretiella rapae McIntosh under laboratory conditions. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.1, pp. 23-26. ISSN 1010-2752.

Diaeretiella rapae McIntosh is a parasitoid of aphids and among its most common hosts in Cuban horticultural areas are Lipaphis erysimi (Kalt), Aphis gossypii Glover, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) and Brevicoryne brassicae (Linnaeus). To know the potential of this insect in regulating aphid populations, a study was designed to determine some of its key biological parameters under laboratory conditions at temperatures of 26,5±1,85°C and 28,06±1,49°C and relative humidity of 59,7±8,63% and 63,13±11,81%, respectively as well as its demographic parameters with and without food supply, based on the calculation of the vertical life table at 23,8±0,33°C of temperature and 69,2±6,9% RH. In both temperature conditions, the duration of Diaeretiella rapae development was 11,48 and 8,7 days, the cycle was 14 and 11,2 days, respectively, and the longevity remained in 2-3 days. The progeny production was 61 and 65 individuals in each case, and the population parameters lx, Lx, Tx, ex, rm, R0 and Tc reached higher values in the population that received food supplement. These results showed the potential of this parasitoid as a future bioregulator of aphid populations in vegetables.
