A case and central study was performed for knowing the behavior of retinophaty associated with Diabetes Mellitus - Arterial hypertension in five health Clinics belonging to Rodolfo Ramirez Esquivel Polyclinic in Camagüey within the period from Junuary 1998 to Junuary 1999. The study universe was composed of 70 diabectic patientes divided into groups of study: Case group: (diabetic hypertensive) and control group (diabetic normotensive) with 35 patients each of them. Normal eye depth was found in 28 diabetic patients without arterial hypertension and only 19 in the hypertensive diabetic group, observing also an over all incidence of proliferative retinopathy in the group of hypertensive diabetics (37, 1%). Concluding, the diabetic retinopathy showed the earlier ocurrence in the hypertensive - diabetic group strongly related to more than 10 years of evolution of disease and metabolic control.
