OROZCO RODRIGUEZ, Sara  e  MORALES MEDINA, Mercedes. Assessment of the maternal and child nutritional surveillance system. Camagüey province. AMC [online]. 2002, vol.6, n.2, pp. 146-154. ISSN 1025-0255.

As assessment of the maternal and child nutritional surveillance system (SISVAN) during the first semester of 1999 in Camagüey province was performed with the aim of assessing nutritional indicators in children younger than five years and pregnant women, such as: malnutrition for defect in the groups mentioned before, malnutrition for excess in children younger than five years, infant mortality, mortality for EDA, ERA and B.P.N (low birth weight). An analysis of data obtained from the statistical register of the health clinics and areas of each municipality in the province was carried out. We reached to the following conclusions: defect malnourished prevalence in younger than five years was kept as to the same previous period, excess malnourished was raised in younger than one year. Anemia prevalence increased in the third trimester of pregnancy as well birth weight rate. The remaining indicators behave similarity as to the same previous period. Najasa, Sierra de Cubitas, Santa Cruz del Sur and Sibanicú municipalities showed the most unfavorable indicators for malnutrition in pregnant and high low birth weight rate. It was recomended to increase the work quality of SISVAN in the field of nutrition, as well as interrrelationships of sectors in this province.
