A descriptive and cross-sectional study about the behaviour of sexually transmitted infections, in pregnant women belonging to the Basic Group of Work, number one of the Tomás Rojas Teaching Community Polyclinic of Céspedes municipality from January 2001 to December 2002, was carried out. The study universe was represented by 67 pregnant carriers of sexually transmitted infections (STI), with the aim determining is behaviour during pregnancy. The 35, 8 % out of the total of pregnant were carriers of STI. The 34, 4 % of them had ages from 25 to 29 years and 10, 4 % from 15 to 19 years. The most frequent germs were Trichomona vaginalis in the two ages with 25, 1 % in 2001, and 44, 1 % in 2002, Clamidia trachomatis represented the 26, 4 % in 2002, and Treponema pallidum 32, 1 % in 2001. The 42, 3 % out of carriers of STI, had a low birth weight and 14, 7 % ended in abortion. There is a high percentage of STI in pregnant mainly in the third decade of life. T. vaginalis were higher prevalence, followed by C. trachomatis and T. pallidum. It was proved the close relationship among STI and the unfavourable perinatal results.
