Background: definite endocardial pacemaker implantation may be accompanied by septic complications that darken its prognosis, hence the importance of its study. Objective: to describe the behavior of septic complications of definite endocardial pacemakers in patients at the Cardiovascular Care Center in Camagüey, from 2001 to 2009. Method: a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in a universe of 49 patients with septic complications, whose secondary record was their medical histories and the register of pacemaker implantation, the studied variables were: age group, sex, type of septic complications, germs, antimicrobial susceptibility, type of pacemaker most prone to complicate and way of implementation. Data were computer-operated, descriptive statistics through absolute and relative summary measures were used. Results: septic complications in the group of 60 years and older prevailed. Surgical wound sepsis and the one from the pocket were the most frequent, as well as Staphylococcus aureus germ, most of the germs showed resistance. Venipuncture and dual chamber complicated pacemakers prevailed. Conclusions: septic complications predominated in patients over than 60 years, regarding dual chamber and venipuncture pacemaker. Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequent germ, resistance to treatment was observed.
