TAMAYO LEYVA, Yanet Iliana et al. Predictive value of tomography in the diagnosis of cerebral astrocytomas. Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Hospital. 2017-2018. Multimed [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.6, pp. 1320-1336. ISSN 1028-4818.

Astrocytomas are brain tumors with a high frequency of occurrence. A non-experimental study with descriptive and analytical component was carried out, with the objective of determining the predictive value of tomographic variables in the diagnosis of cerebral astrocytomas in 52 patients with tomographic diagnosis of cerebral neoplasia confirmed by Computed Axial Tomography (CT) of the skull treated at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Bayamo Hospital in the period from January 2017 to December 2018. In the present study we found that the region most frequently affected by astrocytomas was the frontoparietal followed by the frontal and temporal region. The tomographic study diagnosed 23 patients with the diagnosis of astrocytomas and 29 as non-astrocytomas, high sensitivity and specificity were found, as well as high positive and negative predictive values. As for the tomographic variables evaluated, the low contrast enhancement and hypodensity had high sensitivity and specificity, as well as their predictive values of what turns out to be useful characteristics in the diagnosis. The validity index calculated both in the tomography and in the variables studied in a general sense brings high veracity.
