Oral health is an essential component for physical health and mental well-being. A quasi-experimental analytical study was carried out with the aim of determining the association of periodontal disease with smoking and poor oral hygiene, in patients from the Confianza Clinic, Las Mangas, Bayamo municipality, Granma province, year 2019. The universe was made up of 1,382 patients and the sample by 150 patients, divided into two groups, one study and another control, selected by means of a non-randomized sampling by quotas as follows: case group: 75 patients with periodontal disease and control group: 75 disease-free patients periodontal. Information was obtained with prior informed consent. Exploratory interrogation methods and intraoral physical examination were applied. Chi2 tests and the ODDS Ratio were used to identify the possible association between the variables to obtain the probability of risk of becoming ill in the presence of the risk factors considered. There was a predominance of the age group of 30-39 years (37.33%), while pre-university and medium-finished technician (45.33 and 34.00%) predominated in the educational levels, respectively. Smoking (OR = 5.11) and poor oral hygiene (OR = 9.73) were risk factors for periodontal disease. There was no statistical significance between smoking and the severity of periodontal disease (p = 0.9780), while poor oral hygiene did have statistical significance in this regard (p = 0.0293).
