Strokes were defined as involvement of an area of the brain from transient or permanent ischemia or hemorrhage, causing a motor deficit as well as cognitive, and emotional communication that interfere with functional abilities. The hemiplegic syndrome is the main sign, and physiotherapy plays a major role since the disease appeared, that is why a literature review was done with the objectives of supporting the principles established for posture treatment, and explain the different positions to place the hemiplegic patient, advantages and disadvantages of each position, and abnormal posture reflexes to avoid, or otherwise promote the benefit of the recovery of the patient. Fourteen references were revised in databases using descriptors and keywords. After a thorough assessment of the 230 publications dealing with the subject under study, a total of 37 documents were included in the review. The authors concluded that adequate and early posture treatment with early mobilization, are effective in reducing mortality, complications of bed rest, functional dependency and institutionalization of patients, as well as, to give the treatment in any clinical stage of hemiplegic syndrome, and regardless of where the Physiotherapists perform the treatment.
