Adverse Drug Reactions are frequent and preventable, a poorly studied cause of morbidity and mortality. Several factors may influence the occurrence of these undesirable effects. They may involve physiological or pathological factors, apart from the environmental and socio-cultural environment. Increasing data suggest that, adverse drug events are frequent in hospital environments and may cause substantial damage. They become a huge burden for hospitals due to prolonged hospitalizations and high admission rates, which affect hospital costs. Hospitalization rates prevalence for drug-related problems range from 5% to 12%, in the studies review. It is necessary to improve safe use of medicines and strategies for the usual clinical practice, to reduce the negative impact of Adverse Drug Reactions.
