The aim of this article was to determine the frequency and factors associated with the infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis at reproductive age. A cross-sectional study was conducted among women that visited the offices of gynecology, infertility and full pregnancy, in Havana City. Endocervical smear samples from 224 women were obtained and processed by polymerase chain reaction. A questionnaire was applied on some sociodemographic, clinical and sexual behavior aspects. Data were analyzed by the Chi square test and odds ratio. The total frequency of infection was 6.9. Six significant associations were found: age under 25 (14.5), being single (13.4), referring no symptoms of gynecological infection (14.0), having no history either of pelvic inflammatory disease (10.1), or of sexually transmitted diseases (12.3), and having had more than a sexual partner in the last 3 months. It was concluded that these results showed that the infections appear more frequently in adolescent women and young female adults, who are single, asymptomatic, and have risk sexual conducts.
