SEUC, Armando H.; DOMINGUEZ, Emma  e  GALAN, Yaima. Burden of cancer morbidity in Cuba in the year 2000. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2006, vol.44, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3003.

Several papers have been made to quantify the burden of mortality (by a number of causes) expressed as years of potential life lost (YPLL). However, the burden of morbidity, so important as the burden of mortality, has not been thoroughly studied yet, largely because the availability of morbidity records is much lower. This first paper on the burden of cancer morbidity in the year 2000 started a new series of studies that will help to reduce the relative shortage of data about this topic in Cuba. Epidemiological indicators that characterize the behavior of cancer in Cuba (mortality, incidence and prevalence) based on the information provided by the National Division of Statistics and the National Registry of Cancer, were used. These indictors were internally validated by DISMOD program and served to calculate YPLL from cancer-associated morbidity according to WHO procedures in its studies on the problem. YPLL from mortality and YPLL from morbidity were compared for the year 2000 in Cuba.
