MARTINEZ CALVO, Silvia  e  GONZALEZ DIAZ, Carlos. Health activities held at two important moments for the Cuban public health care history. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2006, vol.44, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3003.

A comparative analysis of two Hygiene units located in the same territory of the City of Havana, but whose work was carried out in two different historical phases, was made. The first unit was the extinct Hygiene Unit from Marianao municipality, which reached its boom period at the 40´s. The second unit is the present Municipal Hygiene and Epidemiology Unit that was opened up on the 80`s as the rest of the 168 units distributed all over the country during the phase of full consolidation of the national healthcare system. The objectives of this paper were to describe the preventive activities carried out to control risks, diseases and damage to the population of the involved territory, to show achievements and shortcoming in their work, and to acknowledge the performance of health professionals and technicians from both units at two relevant periods of the historical course of the Cuban health care system. The depicted activities were related to health promotion, prevention, inter-sectoral work, community-wide participation and training courses as well as their most outstanding results considered as contributions by these units to the community health status.
