The study is aimed at analyzing certain ethical dilemmas of science from the perspective of social studies of science and technology, substantiating the need to ethically regulate biomedical research with human beings and the important role of research ethics committees. A presentation is made of the main international codes of ethics regulating biomedical research with persons. Reference is also made to the emergence of research ethics committees both worldwide and in Cuba, and their role in the ethical training of researchers. It is concluded that international agencies, national governments, biomedical research institutions, researchers and research subjects have a shared responsibility in the ethical regulation of research. It is also concluded that science is not ethically neutral, and researchers should abide by certain moral principles ensuring the protection of the rights and integrity of the subjects of biomedical research.
