Introduction: the pandemic caused by AIDS is an important concern for the scientific community, standing out that in the years went by the diagnosis of the first case, up to date, several advances are observed in the quality of life and life-expectancy of HIV infected people, particularly in Cuba. Objective: to estimate the correlation of co-infections in HIV/AIDS people in Pinar del Rio province along with nutritional and immunologic status. Material and method: an observational, analytical and cross-sectional study was conducted comprising 116 patients from the ambulatory system (29 female sex and 87 male sex), during January 2006-2012. A nutritional, clinical and immunologic assessment was performed to all of them. Demographic, clinical and anthropometric data of the subjects participating in the study were stored in an Excel 7.0 OFFICE worksheet (Microsoft Windows, Virginia-USA). Results: regarding the type of co-infection a major prevalence of fungal infections was observed in the patients participating in the study; finding by means of different methods, a low percentage of individuals with a deteriorated nutritional status and an adequate immune response. Conclusions: the follow up and comprehensive care of HIV/AIDS people included into the study in Pinar del Rio province, was effective and efficient ensuring the low prevalence of co-infections, which cannot be apart from the nutritional assessment of the patient or the absolute counting of CD4+ cells.
