Introduction: research is recognized as an essential skill in the training of a competent professional. Objective: To determine the current status of the research component in the process of training specialists in general medicine at Hermanos Cruz Polyclinic of Pinar del Río. Method: Descriptive and cross-sectional study during the second half of 2014. Universe: 67 teachers, tutors and managers, and 23 residents in the specialty of General Medicine at Hermanos Cruz Outpatient Polyclinic, Pinar del Río. Empirical methods and procedures of descriptive statistics were used. Results: teachers, tutors and managers, and residents consider insufficient training for scientific research from the program modules of the specialty to solve the problems of the profession. Conclusions: The research component in the process of training specialists in Comprehensive Medicine in Pinar del Rio proves no-systemic and disintegrated, showing among residents, professors and administrators the need to improve it.
