Background: necessary information competencies to identify, find, evaluate and use information ethically in teachers in medical sciences are limited, making it impossible for professional development and making appropriate decisions in fulfilling their functions, so it is significant to promote the development of these competencies. Objective: to propose a strategy for the information competencies training in teachers of the Medical Sciences. Development: an investigation with transactional descriptive design was made, whose psychological support is the cultural historical approach and within the methods the expert criteria to validate the proposed strategy, the population consisted of 33 teachers from the principalship of the University of Medical Sciences from 2010 to 2012. The shortcomings of these teachers helped develop the strategy that was structured as follows: general objective, specific objectives, curriculum design, foundation, thematic plan, teaching strategy and structure, validated to meet the established requirements. Conclusions: the proposed strategy can provide solutions to detected and corroborated problems in previous diagnosis, it is consistent with the requirements to contribute to the formation of information competencies and methodological requirements to structure practice activity through the blended and virtual; its applicability and potential to improve the update modes relative to scientific information and the acquisition of skills, abilities and knowledge for teaching, assistance and research.
