PEREZ DELGADO, Yanet; MURADAS AUGIER, Marilét; SOTOLONGO MOLINA, Yolanda e GUTIERREZ GARCIA, Francisco. Antiemetic prophylaxis applied to surgical patients placed under general anesthesia: A comparative study. Rev cuba anestesiol reanim [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1726-6718.
Introduction: Postoperative nausea and vomiting are frequent adverse events. There are many drugs used to its prevention and treatment; among the more used are Droperidol and Ondansetron. Aims: to compare effectiveness of combined administration of above drugs and to identify the potential influence of some risk factors on appearance of mentioned events. Material and Methods: A random, comparative, prospective and controlled clinical assays was carried out including the surgical programmed patients placed under total intravenous anesthesia, which were distributed in three groups according the antiemetic drug used in a prophylactic way. Statistical processing included frequency distribution analysis, homogeneity test, unvaried and of logistic variation analysis. Results: Between nauseas and vomiting there were not significant differences in the three group of patients (p = 0,59 and p = 010), respectively. Interestingly, in none of 20 patients in which we used drugs combination there was postoperative vomiting. Sex (p = 0,01) was the factor associated with nauseas occurrence. Conclusions: The fact that there were not significant differences between the three treatment regimes and that none of patients in which we used the combination of both drugs had vomiting; don't rule out the combined use of these drugs to prevent and to treat postoperative nauseas and vomiting.
