VICEDO TOMEY, Agustín. Production of biochemistry textbooks and other bibliographic aids. Origin and development. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1729-519X.

In Cuba massive physicians´ formation has required efforts regarding human and materials resources. These needs include textbooks and other bibliographic aids to be used by students and professors. The elaboration of textbooks by Cuban authors, besides favoring it's pertinence according to the study plans and better understanding by students, also means a financial saving contribution. In this article, we present, using a historical and documentary approach, the production of bibliographic aids by Biochemistry professors from Havana Medical Sciences University. One remarkable event in connection with this authoring work has been the publication of the four volumes of the textbook "Medical Biochemistry" printed with high standards of quality, which deserved the 1999 Annual Award of Public Health Ministry. As a pioneer in this authoring activity was Professor Roberto Alonso Borges, joined by other experienced teachers in this task. Nowadays new generations of Biochemistry authors, leaded by Professor Dra. Lidia Cardellá Rosales, are going further on with this compromising legacy.
