Objective: To describe the behavior of the TMJ dysfunction syndrome using the Wilkes stages for this pathology, as well as the presence of concomitant associated factors. Patients and method: A cross-sectional, descriptive and observational study was conducted in 61 patients who suffered from this affection was made at Dr. Miguel Enríquez teaching hospital, from September 2009 to February 2010. Results: A prevalence of patients with Wilkes stage II (39, 3%) was found followed by Wilkes stage III (34, 4%). The most common concomitant associated factor was stress (83, 6%) followed by occlusive instability (78, 7%). Conclusion: The Wilkes stage II was the most representative in both sexes being stress the most frequent concomitant associated factor with the TMJ dysfunction syndrome.
