This article tries to recount some of Karl Raimund Popper's most important contributions to the philosophy of science, with special emphasis on his proposal of falsificationism, as well as its impact on the educational sciences. It is hoped that the discussion of these theoretical contributions will serve as a reflection to organize actions that help to respond to the challenges of explanation and understanding posed by educational research and practice.
