ALVAREZ ESCUDERO, Lourdes  e  BORRAJERO MONTEJO, Israel. An update on parameters associated to the occurrence of thunderstorms at zones of wind power development. Energética [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.3, pp. 176-185. ISSN 1815-5901.

Electric discharges associated to thunderstorms are one of the main natural phenomena that can cause damages and service interruptions to wind generators. The current work has as purpose to bring an update on the behavior of some parameters related to thunderstorms such as the inter annual, annual and daily courses of the frequency of occurrence of these phenomena and the keraunic level, as an electric discharges protection design parameter, for 6 meteorological stations associated to wind power development zones, such as Gibara, the north of Havana and The Island of Youth. The study is based on current weather code series for periods varying according to the course or parameter involved. Overall, inter annual series of frequency of occurrence of observations reporting thunderstorms show some kind of trend in the period studied, its annual courses show contrast between winter and summer and the majority show maxima at 16 hours local time. The annual average number of days with storm reports is minimum at Punta Lucrecia station and maximum at the Island of Youth.

Palavras-chave : inter annual course; keraunic level; thunderstorm.
