DIAZ LEZCANO, Evelio e OROZA BUSUTIL, Rebeca. The migration issue and the demographic problem in Russia. Its historical evolution. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.28, pp. 231-239. Epub 24-Maio-2019. ISSN 1817-4078.
The Federal Republic of Russia, the largest state entity derived from the disintegration of the Soviet Union, was the protagonist of a spectacular migratory movement in its first fifteen years. Initially, almost until the end of the nineties, Russia was a leading emitter of migrants, but later, due to the progressive overcoming of internal instability and the remarkable economic recovery generated by the high prices of hydrocarbons, the country became an important recipient, presenting a positive migratory balance at the end of the first five years of this century. In recent years, Russia has migratory patterns similar to those prevailing in the main developed countries and, as in those countries, it is the scenario of restrictive policies that foment discrimination, xenophobia and sometimes violence.
