BOURZAC MACIA, Lisset; BENITEZ JIMENEZ, Iliana  e  MENDEZ HERNANDEZ, Giselle María. Treatment of fertility in the 1990s. A look at communication about population in the Sierra Maestra newspaper. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.33, pp. 274-303.  Epub 15-Nov-2021. ISSN 1817-4078.

The recent research states the links between the fertility behavior in the territory and its treatment in the Sierra Maestra newspaper in Santiago de Cuba between 1990 and 1999. This evaluates the implementation of communication in population in this newspaper. The documentary review, the content analysis of the journalistic materials on the subject and the semi-structured interview with journalists who covered fertility-related topics were used as empirical methods. This favored establishing The analysis of the journalistic treatment of fertility in the newspapers of the province as a general element from the sexual and reproductive health perspective, as well as the little observation of its link with the rest of the indicators of demographic dynamics. Likewise, two different stages were identified during this decade based on criteria such as: the journalistic genders used, the sources, and the analysis of this item in relation to the sociocultural context. It concludes with the identification of the challenges remaining for communication in population in this newspaper.
