RIVERO PADRON, Yoandry; SUAREZ MONZON, Noemí  e  FERNANDEZ RIVERO, Ernesto Venancio. PROMOTION AND EDUCATION FOR HEALTH IN THE ECUADORIAN UNIVERSITY CONTEXT: CHALLENGES AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL. Conrado [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.61, pp. 125-132. ISSN 1990-8644.

The promotion and education for health aims to reinforce healthy habits and lifestyles among university students. The Latin American region has been oriented to carry out actions in towards this matter. As a result there are several Institutions of Higher Education that work to become universities for health purposes, an approach led by the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization. For the implementation of projects in this area experimented teachers are required with knowledge, skills and appropriate methodologies that achieve accurate results. It is very common to find in the Latin American context a reality very similar to the one reflected in this study, developed at the Israel Technological University and the Indoamerican Technological University of Ecuador. There is a lack on the teacher’s performance in multiple aspects that can be solved in different ways, however, it is a topic not prioritized for the research. With this background the study aims to evaluate the failings and offer a way to improve university teaching staff preparation. The methodology articulated the quantitative with the qualitative in the approach to the problem and its solution. The sample included students, teachers and university welfare teams from the two universities. The results are able to unveil the current situation of teachers and a proposal for their training.
