TERAN DIAZ, Roberto Javier. Swimming in the Ecuadorian school and extracurricular sport: A proposal of curricular improvement. Rev Podium [online]. 2021, vol.16, n.1, pp. 40-51.  Epub 05-Abr-2021. ISSN 1996-2452.

Physical education is committed to the integral formation, balance and well-being of the student; and, within this, swimming as an exercise practice in the aquatic environment encourages curricular improvement in the updating and strengthening of the area. The objective of this research was to present a proposal for curricular improvement of swimming. The empirical methods of the bibliographic review were applied to 20 documents published from 2007 to the present from the Google Academic databases and the Platform of the Ministry of Education of Ecuador; and the interviews applied to 10 expert swimming coaches from the city of Quito in Ecuador. Critical analysis and synthesis were carried out in two stages, the first was dedicated to the curricular development of swimming in Physical Education and the second to swimming as a physical and sports practice. This helped to reach the understanding of the socio-educational-curricular fact and its real concretion in the curricular development of swimming in Ecuadorian physical education; Finding a gap that allows justifying the proposal determined in three aquatic domains linked to essential basic curricular skills, being able to standardize learning in this environment from the use of the pool as a resource, and swimming as a new recreational sports practice for life.
