VERANES GARZON, Inerkys  e  PENALVER SINCLAY, Ana Gladys. Instrument to measure leadership development in health institutions. Infodir [online]. 2021, n.36  Epub 04-Abr-2022. ISSN 1996-3521.

Introduction:

In order to measure leadership development, it is necessary to take into account that there are several types of leadership styles that we have to know how to identify, for which it is necessary to establish validated instruments to evaluate the development. Validation is the process of designing and culturally adapting an instrument to the environment where it will be implemented in order to collect real information.

Objective:

To validate an instrument to evaluate leadership development in health institutions.

Methods:

An instrument with 25 items was designed to evaluate leadership development in public health institutions. It was subjected to evaluation and validation. The validation was carried out through the judgment of nine experts of “Leadership development from the application of neurosciences as scientific tools for health management” project. The work consisted of four phases: a) development of the instrument, b) review by nine experts for evaluation, c) the instrument was received with the observations made by the experts, d) analysis and determination of statistical reliability through the SPSS 20 program.

Results:

The percentage of approval among the experts was 90% and reliability by Cronbach's Alpha of 0.83 indicates that the items measure the same construct and are highly correlated.

Conclusions:

The instrument was validated with a high reliability, it can be used by cadre specialists of health institutions to evaluate the development of leadership in health institutions, which will allow detecting gaps in the selection of managers on which they should work and will serve them as a working tool.
