AGOST FELIP, María Raquel; MARTIN ALFONSO, Libertad  e  MORENO SANDOVAL, Alejandro. Strategies to promote active and healthy aging in Spanish autonomous communities. Infodir [online]. 2021, n.36  Epub 04-Abr-2022. ISSN 1996-3521.

Introduction:

Population aging is a growing scenario on a global scale attended by international organizations and public administrations of the countries. The World Health Organization's paradigm on active aging has marked an important milestone in the formulation of work strategies with repercussions in the Spanish state.

Objective:

To analyze the strategies aimed at promoting active and healthy aging in the Spanish Autonomous Communities.

Development:

A review was made of the plans or strategies enacted by their governments since 2002. A diagnostic sheet composed of indicators describing the components of the different programs, plans or strategies was used for their analysis. Documents were found in 13 of the 17 Autonomous Communities. The information made it possible to make reflections of theoretical and practical value for decision-makers in charge of the elaboration and planning of programs related to the subject.

Conclusions:

Not all the Autonomous Communities have strategies to work specifically on active aging, but they do have projected other types of programs or documents that allow actions to assist the elderly. The minority of cases depends on Departments that administer Health; most of them concern social welfare and Social Services. Some strategies are aimed at specific issues such as: dependency and elder abuse, the inclusion of ICT tools, and others have calculated the active aging index for their territories.
