Introduction:

At the end of December 2019, in the city of Wuhan, in the province of Hubei, China, a group of patients with acute respiratory syndrome of unknown etiology was reported. Later, in January 2020, the Chinese authorities reported that a new coronavirus was identified as a possible etiology. This resulted in the outbreak of a pandemic in the world that currently includes 190 countries.

Objective:

To identify the morbidity and mortality caused by this disease and the different sociodemographic variables of the positive cases in Artemisa.

Methods:

An observational descriptive work was carried out with the objective of describing the behavior of COVID-19 in our province, from its beginning on March 29, 2020 to March 31, 2021. The historical-logical method was used. and documentary review.

Results:

2,530 positive cases for the SARS-Cov-2 virus were detected, having performed a total of 90,358 PCR samples, resulting in a positivity of 2.8%. The month with the highest incidence was March this year. The most frequent age was 20 to 39 years old, with 13.79% in pediatric ages and the male sex prevailed; 2330 autochthonous cases and 200 imported. 85.49% were contacts of confirmed cases and 56.72% were asymptomatic. At the end of this work, 2392 discharges had been made, 138 remained hospitalized and only 6 deaths were reported for a lethality of 0.2.

Conclusions:

The behavior of the pandemic in the province of Artemisa was of a high level of positive cases to the SARS Cov 2 virus, although the positivity was low according to the number of samples analyzed, the third decade of life was the one that most prevailed at the same as the male sex.
