The environmental pollution because of heavy metals (HM) in soils is a concern for the agricultural production, due to the adverse effects that it causes in the quality of the cultivation. Numerous countries have been able to establish values of reference on the content of HM in soils. Cuba does not have this information, what means a potential risk for the quality of food production of vegetable origin and a danger for alimentary security. The objective of this work was to determine the available content of HM (extracted with E.D.T.A. 0, 0200 mol·L-1) in soils with low anthropic activity. Determinations of texture by means of Bouyoucos method, pH in water and in KCl by potentiometric, contents of sodium and potassium by flame photometric, calcium and magnesium contents by complex formation volumetric, total organic carbon content by means of the colorimetric method and the available contents of Cadmium, Copper, Iron, Nickel and Lead for the Spectrometric of Atomic Absorption, were made to three types of ferralitic soils, with a total of fifteen replicas for each of them. The obtained results indicated that the soils presented low capacity of cationic exchange and prevalence of clay fraction. Except for the Cadmium, the cationic presented inferior values to those internationally reported as permissible maxima. The information obtained provided necessary elements for the best soil management and their usage in the future. It will also contribute to establish reference indicators for these types of soils in Cuba.
