Introduction: the master's degree is the component of postgraduate academic studies which is responsible for developing research skills in a given area of knowledge, and aims to achieve a better performance of its graduates in the area it addresses. Objective: to describe the implementation of teaching and research activities by Primary Health Care Master's Degree graduates from the Medical University of Santiago de Cuba. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a focus on Primary Health Care Master's Degree graduates who graduated between the academic years 1996-1997 and 2009-2010. This was achieved with a simple random sample. Empirical methods were used, such as documentary analysis and survey, and mathematical methods that facilitated the information processing. Results: it was found that 86% of graduates hold an academic rank, and 62.0% have worked as research tutors or advisors, while 78.0% of them teach classes. In the research area, 86.0 % of them have publications, 56.0 % have participated in scientific events, and 45.0 % have published the results of their thesis. Conclusions: the graduates from this master's degree have fulfilled teaching and research functions with encouraging results. They have participated in scientific meetings, have been authors and co-authors of publications and have worked as thesis tutors or advisors.
