Introduction:

the article intends to continue with the ideas of an editorial published in this journal a few years ago, it addresses the problem of teaching or pedagogical professionalization as a process, which is also known as the pedagogical training process of the teaching staff.

Objective:

to establish the position of the authors about the pedagogical training process of the teaching staff in the context of Cuban higher medical education.

Methods:

electronic sources were analyzed; they included doctoral theses and articles published in scientific journals: 29 sources were consulted and after being filtered, 13 were selected, seven of them correspond to the five-year period 2015-2020. National authors, researchers in the field of continuous training through professional improvement in medical education were prioritized.

Results:

first, general aspects of an epistemological nature are approached and then there is an abundance of methodological foundations and their contextualization, with evaluations that are based on the teaching and research experience of the authors, who defend the relevance of the subject.

Conclusions:

the authors consider that the pedagogical training of the teaching staff is a process that each medical university should strengthen, considering the teaching work of its graduates not as just another task but as a second career or profession. For this they must manage a special pedagogical process that articulates the training and professional experience of those selected with their pedagogical professionalization.
