Objective:

The biology teacher is called to assume a leading role in environmental education, thus, the need of developing the. This article aims at describing a systemic approach of the development of the didactic competence for environmental education as a component of the education of the biology teacher.

Methods:

Theoretical level methods were used for the systematization of the epistemic foundations. The functional structural systemic method was used for the analysis of the object, by specifying the structure, functions and hierarchical relationships between the components of the process. The modeling allowed to configure the systemic approach.

Result:

The process of developing didactic competence for environmental education may result from coordination and complementary relationships established between the sub-processes of biological-environmental integration and contextualization to the teaching and learning of biology.

Conclusions:

The relationships of coordination and complementarity established between the sub-processes of biological-environmental integration and contextualization of the teaching-learning of biology may favor the environmental didactic performance of the biology teacher.
