LOPEZ DE LA CRUZ, Yoandy; NAFEH ABI-REZK, Manuel S. e BETANCOURT CERVANTES, Julio R.. Internal mammary artery harvesting in cardiac surgery: an often mistold story. CorSalud [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.1, pp. 64-76. Epub 01-Mar-2020. ISSN 2078-7170.
The left internal mammary artery is the conduit of choice for left anterior descending coronary artery grafting. A huge body of evidence shows that the short and long-term outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting depend on specific factors related to the preparation of the artery, namely, its blood flow and residual sternal vascularization degree. Accordingly, the internal mammary artery harvesting has received as much attention as the grafting construction technique in recent decades. However, the story of its origins and subsequent progress has not always been properly told as many inaccuracies have been passed on over the years.
