RAMIREZ CALIXTO, Carmita Yisela  e  LUNA ALVAREZ, Heriberto Enrique. The caretaker of disabled people in Ecuador. The case of the beneficiaries of the Joaquín Gallegos Lara Bonus. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.3, pp. 98-103.  Epub 02-Jun-2018. ISSN 2218-3620.

In the present work an approximation is made to the current situation of the caretaker, by means of the revision of the legal framework in which it is implied, the identification with its functions, the contextual analysis and the necessary capacities to develop. For this, an exploratory-descriptive research is carried out from the execution of in-depth interviews, bibliographical review and documentary analysis, which allows us to identify the trends and perspectives of the role of eighty-six caretakers interviewed in the last quarter of 2016. The care task delivered to people who because of their family social status despite the importance of being a health care provider, gives responsibilities and highly sensitive tasks, the work falls in the figure of the so-called informality, not being seen as an activity that requires preparation, psychological attention and training. An approach to caretakers work leads to several reflections, about the training they should receive, medical and psychological assistance to their work, and patriarchal tendencies in the assignment of these functions.
