HERMIDA GARCIA, Félix Orestes et al. Impact of biogas production on the energy matrix of the Guayos porcine farm. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.5, pp. 254-262.  Epub 02-Out-2020. ISSN 2218-3620.

The present research was developed in Guayos Porcine Farm in an Agro industrial Complex, located in the Guayos, Municipality of Cabaiguán, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. The aim of the work was to evaluate the impact of biogas production on the energy matrix of the Guayos Porcine Farm. The research is carried out in three fundamental stages (Stage I, II and III): the initial energy revision (Stage I), the implementation and evaluation of the biogas production for primary heat generation (Stage II); and the implementation and evaluation of the biogas production for electricity and heat generation (Stage III). As a result, it was shown that Guayos Porcine Farm was the highest energy consumer in 2007, being biogas production the main opportunity for energy saving. The implementation of biogas production allowed transforming the energy matrix of the farm, replacing in stage II, firewood, liquefied gas and electricity for water heating in the slaughterhouse. The implementation of the electricity and heat generation in stage III, allowed transforming even more the energy matrix of the farm, partially replacing the electricity consumption and delivering electricity to the Electro-Energetic National Grid. In this way, it was demonstrated that the energy production in porcine centers could generate 10 times the energy demanded, which can reform porcine farms into food and energy producers.
