VILA PEREZ, Olga Lourdes  e  MOYA PADILLA, Nereyda Emelia. Public policies: a new look at population aging in Cuba’s current conditions. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.3, pp. 512-524.  Epub 02-Jun-2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

Population aging is one of the most discussed issues when it comes to population dynamics. It constitutes a challenge where practically all countries have been affected by this demographic challenge. The World Health Organization [WHO] highlights that in the first 50 years of this century the proportion of the world population that will reach 60 years of age or more will double, and will go from 11% to 22%. For this reason, they encourage economies to take precautions in this matter, which is so vulnerable to the population segments, and they encourage the establishment of economic - social programs for greater attention to this population. From the labor dimension, this process influences the active labor force this manuscript aims to determine the key variables of population aging in the town of Cienfuegos. As a result, a proposal for actions is provided from the social level, and at the business level to guarantee a focused attention to this population group. Four key aging variables are revealed: aging index, growth rate, adult mortality rate and economically active population, and three probable and possible scenarios are determined until 2030; its relevance leads to the achievement of specific policies for each territory.
